Labradorite

Labradorite Meaning:

Labradorite, also known as Spectrolite, is a greyish to black crystal with flashes of blue, yellow and orange. It is readily available and is usually found in Italy, Greenland, Finland, Russia, Canada and Scandinavia.

Labradorite is known for being a highly mystical and protective stone that helps raise consciousness and connects with universal energies.

Being a dark crystal, Labradorite helps deflect unwanted energies from the aura and prevents energy leakage. It can also help calm an overactive mind and energise the imagination – inspiring you with new ideas.

Labradorite is a great crystal to keep near you – so wear it as jewellery over your Heart Chakra, keep in your pocket or bag and have it on your bedside table to protect and inspire you as you sleep.

Labradorite assists a few different Chakras – the Throat, Third Eye and Crown.

Throat Chakra

Location: The region of the throat, jaw, neck, mouth, and thyroid
Colour: Blue
Element: Ether (Space)
Signs of balance: Authentic expression comes easily and naturally
Signs of imbalance: Difficulty tuning into the true self, the urge to hide opinions and desires from yourself and others, gossiping, dominating conversations, difficulty listening to others, neck pain, hormone fluctuation (relating to the thyroid)

The throat chakra corresponds to the element of ether: space that forms the essence of emptiness. Our true selves exist in the space between the clutter of constant thoughts and emotions through meditation. In the calmness, we find the subtle element of ether and reconnect to the throat chakra.

When the throat chakra is in balance, we speak, listen, and express ourselves openly and authentically. When out of balance, we ignore our inner voice, feel afraid of expressing ourselves, or have trouble listening to others. A blocked throat chakra can also store tension physically and cause a sore throat or neck and shoulder pain.

Third Eye Chakra

Name in Sanskrit: Ajna meaning “beyond wisdom”
Location: The space between the eyebrows
Colour: Indigo
Element: All (earth, air, fire, water, and ether)
Signs of balance: Strong intuition and inner wisdom, the release of the ego
Signs of imbalance: Someone becomes cynical and overly attached to external circumstances. When out of balance, a person may also store tension in the head, causing headaches or vision problems.

Crown Chakra

Name in Sanskrit: Sahaswara meaning the thousand petal lotus
Location: The crown of the head
Colour: Violet
Element: Cosmic energy
Signs of balance: Feelings of enlightenment and a spiritual connection to our higher selves
Signs of imbalance: Happiness depends on external conditions, existential depression, narrow mindedness, greed and materialism, excessive egoism. The imbalance of the crown chakra can also manifest physically through headaches, fatigue, and mental illness.

The Sahaswara chakra relates to cosmic energy. For most, the idea of the crown chakra may seem out of reach, reserved only for wise monks or gurus. However, each person has the power to connect to their higher selves little by little through meditation and healing.

How to Cleanse and Clean Labradorite

As a darker crystal, I would recommend cleansing Labradorite with limited sunlight, the light of the full moon or smudge stick. You can use running water, but only put it in water for a small amount of time and make sure to dry it off as prolonged exposure to water can deteriorate it.

To physically clean your Labradorite, you can use lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth. (Once again, be careful to limit the water exposure and dry it thoroughly).
